Gangs in the United States include several types of groups, including national street gangs, local street gangs, prison gangs, motorcycle gangs and organized crime gangs. Approximately 1.4 million people were part of gangs as of 2011, and more than 33,000 gangs were active in the United States this is according to the richest article . American gangs are responsible for an average of 48% of violent crime in most jurisdictions and up to 90% in other jurisdictions. In the United States gangs are known to engage in traditionally gang related gambling, drug trafficking and arms trafficking. Not only this but it also means that while gangs continue on to grow the more problems that there could be in the future across the United States. This is because gangs also do human trafficking and prostitution. This shows that the gang violence going on is not only an issue in Chicago but in other states. This telling us that the government should be involved and take actions. My national issue is similar to my global because they both interconnect, it is both the same on dangerous gangs out there.
[1] The 6 Most Gang Infested Cities in America." TheRichest. N.p., n.d. Web. 11 Apr. 2015. To include Statistics
All throughout the United States there is approximately about 1.4 million gang members. [1] Up to 40 percent of all homicides in major cities nationwide from 2009 to 2011 were gang related. [2]Gang violence affects the United States because every day there are homicides occurring that are related to gang violence. Chicago itself has many problems with gang violence but it isn’t the only city that has the problem. One other city that also has gang violence is Los Angeles, California. In Los Angeles more than half of the homicides reported are related to gang violence. Los Angeles is also one of the other cities with the highest gang violence rate. Another city that also faces the problem of gang violence is Oakland. California. Oakland Is categorized as the number one city for violent robberies in the country and has a high rate of violence. One of the things that is being done to address the problem is having gang reduction programs in which helps youth that are trying to join a
gang or are in a gang to stay out of trouble. This program targets mainly the
youth because they are hoping that with the program they will see a reduction
in gang violence and in less youth joining gangs.[1]
