The Young lords
The Young Lordsbegan as an organization concerned with their urban environment. The young Lords' supported independence for Puerto Rico, all Latino nations and oppressed nations of the world and also neighborhood empowerment. The Young Lords began as a Chicago turf gang in the 1960s in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Base on my research the Young Lords formed because there were other gangs present at that time. The young lords formed because it was all about protecting family. This gang was called the Roma Boys, this gang was different of ethnic group. There were attempts that the Young Lords pretty much, they did try to influence the Latin Kings. During the 1950’s-1960’s the Young Lords had conflicts with Italians as well in the Lincoln Park .The Young Lords realized that urban renewal was evicting their families and saw police abuses, they also became involved in the Division Street Riots in June 1966. They saw themselves as a people's struggle, a vanguard connected with the masses and it is why they began in Chicago fighting against the displacement of Puerto Ricans from Lincoln Park.
